The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) is a global network of individuals and organisations dedicated to bettering the lives and prospects of Commonwealth citizens. The Society promotes literacy, equality and inclusion, the environment, and connected communities across the Commonwealth’s 54 member nations through youth empowerment, education, and high-level advocacy.
Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate 70 years as Head of the Common wealth in 2022, during her Platinum Jubilee year. The Queen’s seven decades of service to the Common wealth are an inspiring example of the unwavering dedication and significant contribution we can all make to our societies. The Queen’s Common wealth Essay Competition 2022 will ask entrants to consider the positive impact that dedication and selfless commitment to our Common wealth can have.
The RCS’s unique position within the Common wealth family enables it to play a pivotal role in convening and connecting the Common wealth’s political and diplomatic representatives, civil society, business, and youth leaders, as well as delivering highlights of the Common wealth calendar, such as the annual Common wealth Service at Westminster Abbey and the High Commissioners’ Banquet at Guildhall.
The RCS, which was founded in 1868, is non-partisan, independent of governments, and relies on public generosity to carry out its mission.
The Royal Commonwealth Society is a legal entity established by Royal Charter. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth, is our Patron, and she is assisted by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, our Vice-Patron. The Council, which includes the Chair, Treasurer, and Trustees, governs the Society.
✅ THEME OF QUEEN’S COMMONWEALTH ESSAY COMPETITION
This year’s theme is Climate Action in the Commonwealth (2020). The writers bring out innovative ideas for positive change and consider new perspectives. The theme is rooted in Commonwealth values which will help young people explore their connection to the Commonwealth while fostering an empathetic and open-minded worldview.
✅ Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
- The essay competition is open for the nationals or residents of all Commonwealth countries and territories.
- Only copies written in English are accepted.
- Participants must select a Senior or Junior topic depending on their age. Senior participants must be born between 1 July 2002 and 30 June 2007 (14-18 years), and Junior participants must be born after 1 July 2007 (under 14 years of age).
- The maximum word counts are 1,500 words for Senior entries and 750 words for Junior. The word limits apply to all topics and formats (essay, poem, letter, etc.). References and footnotes are not included in the word count.
- Only one entry per participant will be accepted.
- Plagiarism is not accepted.
- The final copy submitted for the competition must be the entrant’s work and mustn’t be corrected or improved by another person.
