Khazar University (Azerbaijani: Xzr Universiteti, literally “Caspian University”) is a private university in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Khazar University has four campuses in Baku and two in other parts of Azerbaijan. The Department of History and Archaeology was established in June 1993 and was formerly known as the Department of History. It falls within the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences.
Hamlet Isakhanli founded Khazar University in March 1991, making it one of the first private universities in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, as well as the first in Azerbaijan, to offer Western-style, research-oriented higher education. Isakhanli founded Khazar in order to reform the previous system of higher education under Soviet control.
Khazar University in Azerbaijan offers Western-style education at all levels: undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral. Khazar University takes part in international student exchange programmes. It also operates a laboratory.
The Khazar University Dictionary and Encyclopedia Center has been open since April 1996 on the Khazar University campus in Baku, Azerbaijan. Professor Tofik Abaskuliyev is in charge of the centre. The main functions of the centre are to conduct linguistic and lexicological research as well as to prepare, evaluate, and publish bilingual, multilingual, and encyclopaedic dictionaries.
The Institute was formerly known as the Center for International and Strategic Studies.
