The Hurford Youth Fellowship Program will help participants build leadership skills and meet activists around the globe. The young activists will be spending three months at the World Movement’s Secretariat, where they’ll expand their connections and share the experience with other activists from around the globe.
Hurford Youth Fellows will engage in strategic meetings, conduct research, and organize and lead presentations, online discussions, and information-sharing sessions on key democracy issues.
Upon completing each fellowship successfully, the fellows will serve as a regional/country focal point, working with the Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network to stay involved and lead youth-related activities.

The Hurford is a Fully Funded Exchange Program in the USA. It is a fully-funded program that will cover the following things;
- Each activist will receive a monthly stipend for living expenses.
- Round Trip Air Travel Tickets to and from Washington, D.C.
- Health Insurance.
✅ Eligibility Criteria:
English Language Requirement: Participation in the programme for general communication purposes requires a working knowledge of English. All materials for the application must be submitted in English.
Following an application process, fellows will be chosen by the World Movement Secretariat staff, NED regional programme staff, the World Youth Movement’s Leadership Board, and the Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network. Selection will be based on a set of criteria that includes demonstrated activism or interest in advancing democracy, a desire to network with others, and a clear explanation of how the fellowship will benefit their own efforts to advance democracy.
Fellows are expected to work full-time on their fellowship projects at the NED office in Washington, D.C. Fellows may not hold any other fellowships or work in any other capacity during the fellowship period unless specifically authorised by World Movement Secretariat staff. Prior to accepting a Hurford Fellowship, the candidate must bring additional fellowships or work opportunities to the attention of World Movement Secretariat staff. Failure to do so may result in the fellowship being revoked.
