Founded in 1878, the University of Montreal (UdeM) is the only French-speaking Canadian university to be among the top 100 universities in the world and one of the top five French-language universities.
UdeM has 13 faculties and schools, two major affiliated schools – HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal – as well as some thirty affiliated health institutions. Over 67,000 students are enrolled in its approximately 250 undergraduate and 350 graduate and postgraduate programs. The faculty of UdeM and its affiliated schools includes 2,300 permanent and visiting professors and researchers.
In the field of research, UdeM is recognized as one of the most dynamic universities in Canada. Its campus is home to more than 465 research units, including 148 Canada Research Chairs, two Canada Excellence Research Chairs, and one Canada 150 Research Chair. Its internationally renowned researchers, together with its affiliated institutions, gather more than half a billion dollars in research grants each year.
