First Nations University of Canada, established in 1976, is the first First-Nations-controlled university in Canada and a leader in Indigenous-based education.
First Nations University of Canada incorporates Indigenous worldviews and knowledge into all aspects of the university. It aims to give First Nations, Métis, and other Indigenous learners the most significant opportunity to succeed in their education and, in turn, to strengthen their communities through their accomplishments.
First Nations University of Canada is open to students of all backgrounds and is committed to inclusivity and respect for people of all cultures. Each year, thousands of non-Indigenous students attend its classes. For many, this allows them to prepare to work in their chosen fields while helping them network and build relationships with Indigenous people.
