Yeshiva Institution is a private research university in New York City with four campuses. Yeshiva College, Stern College for Women, Katz School of Science and Health, and Syms School of Business are among the university’s undergraduate schools that offer a dual curriculum inspired by Modern–Centrist–Orthodox Judaism’s hashkafa (philosophy) of Torah Umadda, which combines academic education with Torah study. While the university’s majority of students are Jewish, many students, particularly at the Cardozo School of Law, the School of Business, and the Graduate School of Psychology, are not.
Yeshiva University is a New York State-chartered independent university. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education and various professional organisations have accredited it.
Wilf Campus, the university’s main campus, is located in Washington Heights. The Great Depression of 1929 stopped a 1928 proposal to develop a large Moorish Revival complex around multiple gardens and courtyards after only one structure had been completed. Following the Great Depression, construction resumed in a modern style and through the acquisition of existing neighbourhood structures. Yeshiva University has grown to include over twenty colleges, schools, affiliates, institutes, and organisations, as well as multiple linked hospitals and healthcare institutions, since its founding in 1886. Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, and Israel all have campuses and facilities.
The Yeshiva University Museum is a teaching museum and the university’s cultural arm. Yeshiva University Museum is AAMG recognised and was founded in 1973 with the goal of providing a window into Jewish culture around the world and throughout history through multidisciplinary exhibitions and publications.
